Group Accountant job description

The Group Accountant is responsible for consolidating financial results across multiple entities and ensuring accurate group-level reporting in accordance with New Zealand accounting standards. This role supports senior finance leadership with high-quality insights and ensures compliance with all IRD and NZ IFRS requirements.

Group Accountant duties and responsibilities of the job

Key responsibilities of a Group Accountant include:Preparing consolidated monthly and annual financial statements in line with NZ IFRSManaging intercompany reconciliations and eliminations across multiple New Zealand and international entitiesCoordinating group budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling activitiesOverseeing compliance with IRD obligations, including GST, PAYE, FBT, and provisional tax across entitiesSupporting the external audit process and ensuring timely delivery of group audit packsDeveloping and maintaining group accounting policies and proceduresProviding financial analyses and commentary to support board reporting and strategic planningEnsuring accurate data integration across financial systems (e.g. SAP, Xero, MYOB)Assisting with treasury, funding, and foreign currency exposure reportingLiaising with finance teams and stakeholders across New Zealand to support consistent reporting standards

Group Accountant job qualifications and requirements

A CA ANZ or CPA Australia qualification is required. Candidates should have at least 5–7 years of experience in financial accounting, with prior exposure to group consolidation and reporting.Requirements include:Proven experience preparing consolidated financial statements under NZ IFRSStrong understanding of IRD compliance requirements across multiple entitiesProficiency in enterprise financial systems such as SAP, Xero, or MYOB AdvancedAdvanced Excel skills for financial modelling and data analysisExperience working with external auditors and supporting group auditsExcellent attention to detail, analytical capability, and stakeholder communication skills
