Corporate Accountant job description

The Corporate Accountant is responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting, ensuring compliance with NZ IFRS and IRD requirements, and supporting budgeting and forecasting processes. This role maintains robust accounting records, contributes to month-end close activities, and supports the financial integrity of the organisation through timely analysis and reporting.

Corporate Accountant duties and responsibilities of the job

Key responsibilities of a Corporate Accountant include:

Preparing monthly financial statements in accordance with NZ IFRS

Managing the general ledger, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations

Ensuring accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes

Assisting in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis

Preparing and submitting GST, PAYE, FBT, and provisional tax returns to the IRD

Supporting external audits by preparing schedules and responding to queries

Maintaining fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules

Ensuring compliance with internal controls and financial policies

Collaborating with New Zealand-based operational teams to support financial accuracy

Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function

Corporate Accountant job qualifications and requirements

A degree in accounting or finance and full membership with CA ANZ or CPA Australia is required, as well as 3–5 years’ experience in a corporate or commercial accounting environment.

Requirements include:

Strong understanding of NZ IFRS and IRD compliance obligations

Proficiency in accounting systems such as Xero, MYOB, or SAP

Advanced Excel skills for financial modelling and analysis

Experience with audit preparation and supporting statutory reporting

Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail

Effective communication skills for working across New Zealand-based teams and stakeholders
