The Accounts Payable Officer is responsible for managing the end-to-end accounts payable process, ensuring timely and accurate processing of supplier invoices and payments. This role plays a key part in maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and ensuring compliance with company policies and IRD requirements.

Accounts Payable Officer duties and responsibilities of the job

Key responsibilities of an Accounts Payable Officer include:Processing high volumes of supplier invoices with accuracy and in line with payment termsPreparing and scheduling payment runs, including electronic and manual paymentsReconciling supplier statements and resolving discrepancies promptlyManaging GST coding and supporting returns in compliance with IRD regulationsLiaising with suppliers and internal teams across New Zealand to resolve invoice and payment queriesMaintaining up-to-date and accurate records for audit readinessAssisting with month-end closing tasks, including accruals and reportingEnsuring adherence to procurement and financial delegation policiesSupporting continuous improvement initiatives to streamline accounts payable processesUsing financial systems such as Xero, MYOB, or SAP for invoice and payment processing

Accounts Payable Officer job qualifications and requirements

A certificate or diploma in accounting or business administration is preferred. Candidates should have 2–4 years’ experience in a dedicated accounts payable role.Requirements include:Proven experience managing end-to-end accounts payable functionsStrong knowledge of GST processing and IRD compliance requirementsProficiency in financial systems such as Xero, MYOB, or SAPHigh level of accuracy and attention to detail in data entry and reconciliationsAbility to manage tight deadlines and high-volume workloadsStrong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with New Zealand-based stakeholders
