A competitive salary aligns with market standards, reflecting what professionals in your position typically earn. Although having a ‘competitive’ salary may sound reassuring, it is often difficult to know precisely what that means. If you have no experience of a specific job or in a particular sector, you obviously won’t know what professionals in your field earn on average.

Should you negotiate your salary?

A job mentioning a competitive salary doesn't rule out negotiation. During job interviews, you can often secure a higher pay, especially if you're the top candidate.
