The chief financial officer (CFO) is a member of the C-Suite, overseeing all aspects of an organization's financial health. This executive leadership role provides strategic direction for the finance department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, risk management, and compliance with regulations.

Typical chief financial officer duties:

Lead and manage the entire finance team, including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and treasury functions. Develop and implement the organization's financial strategy, aligning it with overall business goals and ensuring long-term sustainability. Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements according to Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (CGAAP). Manage the financial planning and budgeting process, including developing annual budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial plans. Conduct risk assessments and implement strategies to mitigate financial risks, ensuring the organization's financial stability. Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and accounting standards, including Canadian tax laws. Provide insightful financial analysis and recommendations to support informed business decision-making across all departments. Oversee internal controls and ensure adherence to best practices for safeguarding financial assets and data. Manage the external audit process and liaise with auditors.
