Many professionals’ career goals have changed dramatically over the past two years due to a welcoming job market and forces outside of work, including the pandemic and demands for social justice.
A red flag for employers should be the more than 4 in 10 professionals responding to a Robert Half survey who said they plan to quit their job by July 2022 to look for greener pastures.
A new resource for managers
A new guide from Robert Half can help employers more fully understand the revolution in workers’ expectations of companies and what is at stake for managers like you.
Future-Proofing Your Workforce: An Employer’s Guide is an eight-point plan based on Robert Half research that’s designed to help company leaders craft a blueprint for adapting to current and future workplace shifts.
“Workers feel they can do better,” Robert Half senior executive director Paul McDonald says in the guide. “Their gut is telling them that now is the time to make a move, even if they’re relatively content in their current job.”
Obtaining higher salaries, of course, remains a primary objective of the labor force. But, as Robert Half vice president of experience and inclusion Alf Mendez points out in the guide, “Employees are also looking for organizations that live their values, promote diverse thinking and create a sense of belonging.”
Deep dive into current and future workplace trends
The guide provides details on key trends gleaned from our surveys of workers, managers and job seekers, as well as our experience placing thousands of job candidates with client companies each year. Here are a few that are covered:
- Businesses offering more flexibility and fully remote roles are attracting higher numbers of skilled applicants and retaining key employees.
- More than ever before, managers need to address employees’ personal priorities and comfort levels.
- Remote work arrangements have had a significant impact on professionals’ work-life balance and given companies access to a geographically broader talent base.
- Offering programs related to upskilling and reskilling helps keep workers engaged while addressing skill gaps and strengthening teams.
