    SQL Server Engineer

    Location: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid Schedule)

    Job Type: Long-Term Contract


    Overview:

    We are seeking a skilled SQL Server Engineer to join our team on a long-term contract engagement. This role will focus on the design, development, optimization, and support of Microsoft SQL Server environments for critical business applications. The ideal candidate is a strong engineer with a passion for performance tuning, automation, and database reliability.


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Design, implement, and maintain SQL Server databases (on-premises and/or cloud environments).
    • Monitor database health, performance, and storage; proactively address issues.
    • Develop and optimize complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and triggers.
    • Manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
    • Implement security best practices including encryption, role-based access control, and auditing.
    • Perform upgrades, patches, and migrations across environments.
    • Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and business teams on database needs and solutions.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents and service interruptions.
    • Document database architectures, processes, and best practices.


    Required Skills and Experience:

    • 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server Database Engineer or DBA.
    • Strong expertise with Microsoft SQL Server 2016, 2019, or newer versions.
    • Solid experience in performance tuning and query optimization.
    • Proficient in developing and troubleshooting complex T-SQL code.
    • Experience with database security, backup/restore strategies, and HA/DR solutions (Always On Availability Groups, Log Shipping, Replication, etc.).
    • Familiarity with database monitoring tools (SQL Sentry, Redgate, native tools, etc.).
    • Strong understanding of indexes, statistics, locking, and blocking concepts.

    Preferred Skills:

    • Experience with cloud-based SQL solutions (Azure SQL Database, AWS RDS).
    • Familiarity with SSIS, SSRS, and ETL workflows.
    • PowerShell scripting for automation tasks is a plus.
    • Knowledge of DevOps pipelines and database deployments (CI/CD) is desirable.

    Work Model:

    • Hybrid schedule (2-3 days on-site in Charlotte, NC; remainder remote)

    Contract Type:

    • Long-Term Contract (12+ months with potential extension)
