A boutique law firm based in San Rafael, CA, specializing in representing public safety and public sector labor unions, is seeking a Labor & Employment Attorney to provide immediate support on a contract basis. The firm represents clients in a broad spectrum of labor and employment matters, including disciplinary cases, administrative hearings, collective bargaining, labor negotiations, and employment-related litigation in state and federal courts. Additionally, they advocate for clients before the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB), State Personnel Board (SPB), and other labor tribunals and assist with Industrial Disability Retirement (IDR) applications and appeals. The ideal candidate will have strong legal research and writing skills, experience handling labor disputes, and a deep understanding of California public sector labor law. They should be self-motivated, highly organized, and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced environment. Prior experience in grievances, arbitration, employment litigation, and union representation is highly desirable. This role is fully remote; however, candidates must be licensed to practice in California.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide legal research, analysis, and drafting support for labor and employment matters
    • Support case preparation for arbitration, administrative hearings, and litigation
    • Draft and respond to grievances, employment-related policies, and collective bargaining agreements
    • Prepare legal memoranda, motions, pleadings, and other labor law-specific documents
    • Support the firm’s representation of clients before PERB, SPB, and other labor tribunals
    • Conduct client meetings and interviews to gather relevant case information
    • Offer guidance on labor law compliance and best practices

    Qualifications:

    • 2-6+ years of Labor & Employment law experience, preferably in public sector labor law
    • Strong litigation skills, including motion practice, discovery, and case preparation for administrative and labor tribunals
    • Experience preparing grievances, arbitration materials, and administrative hearing documents
    • Knowledge of PERB, SPB, and other California labor tribunals
    • Proficiency in legal research and drafting, including grievances, legal memoranda, client advisories, pleadings, and motions
    • Experience interpreting and analyzing collective bargaining agreements, employment policies, and labor law regulations
    • Strong oral advocacy, negotiation, and analytical skills
    • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
    • California Bar admission required

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Labor & Employment Attorney to step in and provide meaningful support to a respected firm while gaining exposure to impactful public sector labor law matters.
