Position Overview: We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented System Administrator with expertise in Backup and Disaster Recovery (DR) to join our IT team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing our systems to ensure the integrity, availability, and recovery of all mission-critical data and IT services. As a key member of the IT operations team, you will design, implement, and maintain robust backup and disaster recovery strategies to minimize downtime and data loss while ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices. Key Responsibilities: System Administration Manage and maintain enterprise systems, servers, and storage infrastructure. Ensure optimal performance of systems by conducting regular health checks, firmware updates, and patch management. Backup Management Plan, execute, and monitor data backup procedures to ensure that data is consistently replicated and securely stored across all critical systems. Monitor backup jobs daily to ensure successful execution and troubleshoot any failures. Optimize backup processes to reduce downtime and improve recovery points and times. Disaster Recovery (DR) Design, implement, and maintain disaster recovery strategies, plans, and methodologies tailored to organizational needs. Conduct regular DR testing, simulations, and audits to ensure readiness and effectiveness in case of unplanned outages or disasters. Document recovery steps, RTOs (Recovery Time Objectives), and RPOs (Recovery Point Objectives) to align with business continuity objectives. System Security and Compliance Ensure backup and recovery processes comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards, such as HIPAA, GDPR, and ISO 27001. Implement role-based access control for backup systems and ensure secure encryption and storage of data. Monitoring and Optimization Use monitoring tools to proactively detect potential issues related to system performance, backup success rates, and DR plan execution. Analyze historical trends to improve system reliability, reduce costs, and optimize backup and DR plans. Collaboration and Training Work closely with IT, application teams, and business stakeholders to ensure backup and DR solutions are aligned with business needs. Assist end-users by providing training on best practices for data protection and recovery processes. Serve as the first-line resource for technical issues in backup and disaster recovery operations. Incident Response and Troubleshooting Respond promptly to system outages, data loss events, or security incidents affecting backups or system data integrity. Coordinate root cause analysis for backup-related failures to prevent recurrence.
Required Skills and Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (equivalent experience considered). Experience: 3-5 years of experience as a System Administrator or in a related role, with a focus on backup management and disaster recovery. Proven experience with enterprise backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, Commvault, NetBackup, Acronis, or similar tools). Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of backup technologies, including traditional and cloud-based architectures, storage systems, and replication technologies. Experience with virtualization platforms like VMware, Hyper-V, or Citrix and their backup integrations. Knowledge of disaster recovery tools (e.g., DRaaS providers, Azure Site Recovery, Zerto). Proficiency in system performance monitoring and management tools. Hands-on experience with scripting or automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python, or Bash). Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements such as HIPAA, GDPR, ISO 27001, or similar is a strong plus. Key Competencies: Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to interact with technical and non-technical teams. Strong organizational skills with a focus on documentation and process improvement. Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively during critical incidents. Preferred Certifications (not mandatory but a plus): Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, or VMware Certified detail oriented (VCP). Backup-related certifications like Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE) or Commvault Certified detail oriented. Relevant DR or business continuity certifications such as Certified Business Continuity detail oriented (CBCP).
