Senior managers and directors lead the firm's efforts in tax compliance, tax planning, business development and accounting for income taxes, and must be comfortable working with colleagues from across the business, as well as third-party service providers. Strong technological skills, writing and verbal communication abilities, and leadership skills are important to the position. Firms typically look for candidates who have several years of related experience in public accounting, will actively build the firm’s visibility among its clients and community, and are on the partner or shareholder track. A master’s degree in taxation is preferred, and a CPA designation is usually required.
