Data security analysts must possess a thorough understanding of all aspects of computer and network security, including such areas as firewall administration, encryption technologies and network protocols. They manage, deploy, maintain and optimize software applications and must be skilled in Windows operating systems and common PC applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite. Analysts need strong analytical, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent judgment and self-motivation. Successful candidates stay up to date with government regulations and industry security trends and developments. Employers generally seek a bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field, along with at least three years of practical data security experience.
