The Systems Administrator is responsible for managing, maintaining, and securing the organisation’s IT infrastructure, ensuring system availability, performance, and compliance across New Zealand operations. This role supports servers, networks, and enterprise applications, contributing to both operational support and infrastructure projects.

Systems Administrator duties and responsibilities of the job

Key responsibilities of a Systems Administrator include:Installing, configuring, and maintaining physical and virtual servers, storage, and network infrastructureManaging Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Microsoft 365 environmentsMonitoring system performance, availability, and capacity, and responding to alerts and incidentsApplying security updates, patches, and configuration changes in line with ISO 27001 and NZ Privacy Act requirementsSupporting backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planningAdministering endpoint protection, email filtering, and firewall solutionsDocumenting system configurations, procedures, and technical guidelinesAssisting with infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and automation initiativesProviding Level 3 support for escalated IT issues

Systems Administrator job qualifications and requirements

Requirements include:4+ years’ experience in systems administration or infrastructure supportProficiency with Windows Server, virtualisation (e.g. Hyper-V, VMware), and Microsoft 365 administrationStrong understanding of networking, firewalls, and endpoint security practicesFamiliarity with New Zealand compliance frameworks, including the NZ Privacy Act and ISO 27001Experience with monitoring tools and automation scripting (e.g. PowerShell)Strong analytical and problem-solving skillsEffective communication and documentation capabilities across technical and non-technical teams
