The network/cloud engineer bridges the gap between network and cloud technologies within an organization. This role leverages expertise in both areas to design, implement, manage, and troubleshoot converged IT infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, security, and scalability.
Typical network/cloud engineer duties:
Design, configure, and maintain network devices (routers, switches, firewalls) within the on-premises environment.Implement and manage cloud network infrastructure services (e.g., VPCs, subnets, security groups) on various cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).Configure and manage network traffic flow, ensuring security and performance.Troubleshoot network and cloud-related connectivity issues to identify and resolve problems efficiently.Perform network and cloud security configuration tasks to mitigate vulnerabilities.Automate network and cloud infrastructure tasks using scripting languages (Python, Bash) for efficiency.Monitor network and cloud performance metrics to identify potential issues proactively.Support cloud migration projects by configuring and managing cloud resources for network connectivity.Collaborate with network architects, cloud engineers, and other IT professionals to ensure successful integration and operation of the network and cloud environment.
