The Test Manager leads the strategic planning, execution, and delivery of quality assurance processes across software development projects. This role ensures systems meet functional and non-functional requirements through structured testing methodologies and compliance with delivery standards.

Key responsibilities of a Test Manager include:

Defining and maintaining enterprise-wide testing strategies, frameworks, and standards

Leading test planning, execution, and reporting across multiple projects and agile delivery streams

Managing end-to-end testing activities including system, integration, regression, UAT, and performance testing

Coordinating test environment setup, data preparation, and release scheduling in collaboration with DevOps and infrastructure teams

Overseeing defect lifecycle management using tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or HP ALM

Ensuring traceability between requirements, test cases, and defects through comprehensive documentation

Leading and mentoring distributed testing teams, including onshore and offshore resources

Driving automation initiatives using tools like Selenium, Tosca, or Katalon to increase testing efficiency

Managing stakeholder expectations, providing regular reporting, and ensuring alignment with project timelines and risk profiles

Supporting continuous improvement by embedding testing best practices and retrospectives into delivery cycles

Ensuring testing compliance with relevant IT governance frameworks and change management procedures

Typical Test Manager job qualifications and requirements

A degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline is essential, along with proven experience in quality assurance or software testing, including leadership roles.

7+ years of experience leading large-scale testing efforts in agile and hybrid SDLC environments

Strong command of manual and automated testing methodologies across UI, API, and integration layers

Hands-on proficiency with test management tools (e.g. Jira, Xray, Zephyr, HP ALM)

Demonstrated experience in automation frameworks and scripting (e.g. Selenium, Java, Python)

Experience managing testing within CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab, or Azure DevOps

Strong understanding of enterprise architecture and integration testing for distributed systems

Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional leadership skills

Familiarity with performance and load testing tools (e.g. JMeter, LoadRunner)

Working knowledge of ISTQB standards and test maturity models

Ability to manage competing priorities across concurrent delivery streams with strict deadlines
