The Test Manager leads the strategic planning, execution, and delivery of quality assurance processes across software development projects. This role ensures systems meet functional and non-functional requirements through structured testing methodologies and compliance with delivery standards.

Key responsibilities of a Test Manager include:Defining and maintaining enterprise-wide testing strategies, frameworks, and standardsLeading test planning, execution, and reporting across multiple projects and agile delivery streamsManaging end-to-end testing activities including system, integration, regression, UAT, and performance testingCoordinating test environment setup, data preparation, and release scheduling in collaboration with DevOps and infrastructure teamsOverseeing defect lifecycle management using tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or HP ALMEnsuring traceability between requirements, test cases, and defects through comprehensive documentationLeading and mentoring distributed testing teams, including onshore and offshore resourcesDriving automation initiatives using tools like Selenium, Tosca, or Katalon to increase testing efficiencyManaging stakeholder expectations, providing regular reporting, and ensuring alignment with project timelines and risk profilesSupporting continuous improvement by embedding testing best practices and retrospectives into delivery cyclesEnsuring testing compliance with relevant IT governance frameworks and change management procedures

Typical Test Manager job qualifications and requirements

A degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline is essential, along with proven experience in quality assurance or software testing, including leadership roles.7+ years of experience leading large-scale testing efforts in agile and hybrid SDLC environmentsStrong command of manual and automated testing methodologies across UI, API, and integration layersHands-on proficiency with test management tools (e.g. Jira, Xray, Zephyr, HP ALM)Demonstrated experience in automation frameworks and scripting (e.g. Selenium, Java, Python)Experience managing testing within CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab, or Azure DevOpsStrong understanding of enterprise architecture and integration testing for distributed systemsExcellent stakeholder management and cross-functional leadership skillsFamiliarity with performance and load testing tools (e.g. JMeter, LoadRunner)Working knowledge of ISTQB standards and test maturity modelsAbility to manage competing priorities across concurrent delivery streams with strict deadlines
